Terms with the exact same variable or variables are considered to be like terms. Like terms in an expression and equation should be combined for ease of use.

Examples of like terms:

3x, 5x, 12.2x, and 14x

4ds, 33ds, and 19ds

xyz, 3xyz, and 0.12xyz

An example:

5x + 4c - 4x + 3c - 12c

5x - 4x + 4c + 3c - 12c

x + 7c - 12c

x - 5c

Write the simplified form of this expression:

6a + 4a - 5b - 3a + 15b + 7
