Each set contains four 15-minute episodes presenting young people involved in solving an interesting yet non-routine problem. Classroom activities and reproducible worksheets will involve students in learning about the problem-solving process. All videos and activities have been extensively classroom-tested and are carefully tied to the NCTM Standards. An informational tape that can be used in teacher education programs is also included in each set.

A trio of teens have been put in charge of designing a new monkey house for the zoo. The teens find that the best way to tackle the problem is through cooperation. After watching the video, your students use the a wealth of hands-on materials to find their own possible solutions. In addition to exercising their critical thinking skills, students gain a broad understanding of how to measure, estimate, and apply perimeter, area, and volume.

This video allows your students to approach math problem solving the way it happens in the "real world." After watching the video, students will use real-world techniques to approach the problem: working in small groups, sharing expertise and ideas, sifting the important data from background information and, finally, presenting their answers to their peers.
