ONE-TO-ONE BASIC MATH SERIES
reviewed in Booklist, April 1, 1997
Energetic instructor Michael Cain uses props such as a box of doughnuts to explain fractions in this outstanding series that teaches math fundamentals, problem solving, and calculating. Operations with Positive and Negative Numbers introduces the number line, integers, and absolute values. Cain then "removes the mystery" of ratios in Fractions, with Decimals and Percents similarly exploring those concepts. In each program, viewers see how the appropriate numbers are used in the "real world" (discount percentages, sports statistics, etc.) before learning specific concepts that always include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. With top-quality production values and a solid teacher who is exuberant yet not overbearing, this is an excellent resource.
